10 Ways To Keep Your Child Busy During Quarantine

Whether you are a stay-at-home parent or having work from home right now, you need to have some top-notch entertainment activities to keep your child busy during quarantine.

Many events were anticipated in 2020 but the coronavirus quarantine was definitely not one of them. The country is on lockdown and people find themselves in quarantine in order to effectively practice “social-distancing”. This translates into the Herculean task of managing children at home while ensuring that they stay safe and healthy.

Here are a few suggestions –

  1. Splash some colours

Children like the feeling of smearing paint on paper and sprinkling glitter over them. So instead of asking them what they are painting, stand aside and watch them have fun with colours. Introduce them to fingerprint painting and making natural colours from flowers and fruits. Use this time to teach them about the world through shapes and colours.

  1. Dance party

Dancing is a fun solution to release energy and excitement. Get your speakers ready and show off some cool moves with your children. From hip-hop to freestyle, try out anything that will increase your child’s dexterity and keep them active. When you let go of your own inhibitions and dance freely, it is bound to improve their self-esteem and confidence level as well.

  1. Ball of yarn

Knitting is a skill that requires necessary hand-eye coordination and attention span. You never know whether your child has them or not until they try. If they succeed, you may even get free knitted caps and cardigans. It’s also proven to ease anxiety and self-consciousness.

  1. Good old reading

Give them a book that they always put off reading claiming to be too long. Not all children are bookworms, but reading is the fundamental way of developing one’s imagination. You can even initiate them into reading by reading to them so that they themselves will get immersed in the books after a while.

  1. Educational gaming

If you have a computer or tablet, you already have the option of learning through fun. Set a time limit for devices in advance and let your child engage in a variety of games that will help them learn independently.

  1. A family play

Children are sure to enjoy the process of making a script, arranging the props and finally executing a play that involves the whole family. Make sure to include inside jokes and funny anecdotes that will crack them up.

  1. Board games

When your kids start to whine about not being able to go outside and play, you know it’s time to bring out the board games. Be it Scrabble, chess, monopoly or snake and ladder, this is the opportunity to have quality family bonding time.

  1. Cooking videos

It is fun to watch cooking videos but it is even more fun to prepare the dish and make your own cooking video.  In the process, you can get your children to help you in the kitchen, teach them the basic survival skill of cooking and also keep your child busy during quarantine.

  1. Write letters

If it is difficult to get children into writing journals, ask them to write heartfelt letters to friends and relatives instead. They could either e-mail them or go old school by posting them later.

  1. Make puppets

Bring out old socks, paper bags or stuffed animals and encourage children to make puppets. You can help by giving them ideas or by giving access to crafting websites. Maybe you could even encourage them to do a puppet show at the end.

Stay indoors! Stay safe!

We understand its not easy to keep your child busy during quarantine but while the battle against boredom can be easily won through the above techniques, it is more important to win the battle against Covid-19. Parents should ensure that children do not go outside their homes, wash their hands with sanitizer frequently and eat healthy food. Let us do our part and overcome this pandemic together.
