Let us face it – yesterday’s kids grew up to be today’s parents. We all have drawn on the walls with crayons, emptied the cookie container in one go, wrestled with siblings, and made bizarre excuses to skip school. Now that your child is giving you the same excuses, you are not sure whether to believe them or call them out. Most often, a lot of thinking and planning would have gone behind their reasons for not making it to school. Following are some of the hilarious and amusing excuses children give to bunk school
“I think I’ll catch a cold today”
“My best friend was coughing in the classroom yesterday and I have a feeling that I will catch a cold. What if I get a fever too? I think I should stay at home today.” The most common excuse, you know it’s a lie for there is no sign of an approaching fever as he was seen kicking and bouncing around in the house till then.
“My dog needs my company”
Sometimes it is the pet and sometimes it is the teddy bear who asks him to bunk school for a day. With the logic that he is the only one who understands the language of pets and toys, the child uses it to get the parent’s approval. But of course, this is an innocent lie that we can easily see-through.
“I worked hard at school yesterday. I’m tired”
You know it’s an excuse when your child is trying to impress you with the first statement. When he says he is tired without batting an eye, you recognize it as sheer laziness. A huge amount of persuasion might be needed to change his mind and to convince him to go to school.
“Mom did not cook breakfast”
Unlike the others, this one is targeted towards the teacher as the reason for not attending school the previous day. The child who is told to have breakfast regularly before coming to school uses it as a legitimate excuse. But the lie is exposed when the teacher follows up with a quick phone call to the parent.
“I have to spend time with Grandma”
Although the excuse is capable of melting anybody’s heart, the real reason could be incomplete homework. Especially if the grandmother is staying with you, you know he has plenty of time to spend with her and the rest of the family. Knowing your children thoroughly helps you to see right through them.
